Impersonation Twitter account follow-up


About a month ago, we found something a bit strange: a Twitter account that had totally copied ours.

They were using our business name, our cover photo, our logo, our description, and even linked to our website (including the homepage and our blog)!

To say it was bizarre would be an understatement. We were quite confused!

And so, we researched what we could do to report this account.

On Friday 24th July we reported the account for the violation “impersonation of an individual or brand”. Lo and behold, just a few days later, I received the following email from Twitter:

We reported an impersonation account to Twitter, and this is their response. 


I’m not sure about you, but I was expecting to wait at least one week (and maybe even longer) for any word from Twitter, so you can imagine my surprise to receive that email just a few days later.

The email was nothing special; it read like a generic email as it didn’t address any specificities, but I presume that if our argument was deemed not valid enough then we would have received particular reasoning as to why that was the case.

When you try to type the impersonation account’s URL into your search bar, you get the following:

 

We reported an account to Twitter, and they took prompt action by removing the account.
